5 Terms
This week's prompt was to list five terms from our keyterms that we are not quite sure of. As I was scrolling through the document I noticed that, while I understood and could define some words, could not do so when considering them from the viewpoint of composition and those words are the ones I have chosen to include in this list. Thank you in advance for your comments.
- Authority
- Empowerment
- Genre Theory
- Intertextuality
- Evaluation
Hi Colleen I think authority in this case is tied really closely to the ideas of agency and power. Authority is part of credibility, but it is also what gives someone the power to, say, make choices in the classroom or declare something true in writing.
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it genre theory emphasizes writing as something that is done for a very specific purpose. A genre is called for by a specific rhetorical situation, and the writing should follow the conventions of that genre. I believe that genre theory started in the 1980s.
ReplyDeleteHey Colleen!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to take a swing at evaluation. An evaluation is a objective analysis of the quality of a product; it can include revision plans, comments on content, or reveal technical weaknesses, Evaluations usually result in an indication of progress.
Empowerment, in general, is to create ways to establish self-determination in others, so maybe in the writing sense it's to help those find determination or motivation in their own writing. Help them find passion in their given topics so they can have the confidence to write about those said topics.
